Please people! Don’t run your iCloud/iTunes/iCloud email/iCloud photo backup to your work computer. You create unnecessary hurdles for me to jump after you get fired, and “Ain’t nobody wanna see that shit!” Also, consider if I were a less scrupulous and ethical human being and chose to leak your very personal data. I now need to prepare a new plan for conducting complete purges of former employee equipment, lock down USB access, create new user groups with only enough permissions for approved applications, create a list of approved applications, and document all this crap. Not to mention rebuild my backup/DR domain controller, generate a new plan for managed anti-virus to unify 2 separate corporate domains, and rewire a server rack in a neater/cleaner fashion for optimal cooling.

Also, don’t be effing disgusting and pop pimples and wipe the residue on your office chair and don’t wear so much make-up that it coats your desk phone, keyboard, mouse, monitors etc. That is an unethical waste of company assets that I either have to dispose of or spend valuable time cleaning.

That is remarkably fucking stupid.

I remember I purchased a used Xbox 360 HDD off of eBay a few years ago, and when I popped it into my Xbox, it had everything from the previous owner. Based on the 5(!!) screen names, it was some woman who was probably the Xbox Live equivalent of a camwhore.

Luckily for her, I just wiped it clean. But man, she could have been in some serious hurt if it was sold to someone far less scrupulous.

A friend of mine used to work for the Department of Defence as a civilian administrator and he saw all manner of inappropriate and illegal data on computers and network drives that were physically isolated from the Internet. The type of stuff that people will bring in on DVD so that they can have a copy at work is just stupefying.

In some cases (e.g. legal, non-violent porn), you just delete it and move on. In other cases (movies, music), you recover the space by zeroing out the data files and then making them list-only for the user, who’s then gonna get in trouble when they call helpdesk to get access. And in a few rare cases, you end up in military court testifying during court-marshall proceedings...

That’s like cardinal rule number one with a work computer. The most “personal” I’ll go with a work computer is to stream music. It’s a huge red flag to even have any type of thumb drive or SD card in the building even. And our computers are so locked down we can’t even do the simple shit, like delete temporary internet files to speed up our machines. Hell, I can’t even fine tune cleartype. The DOD has us locked down pretty much.
